NEUROGENESIS is the process by which new neurons are formed

  • neurogenesis begins with the division of stem cells

  • the stem cells differentiate and divide into neurons and glial cells [oliodendroglia and microglia are some kinds of glial cells]

  • this process takes place in the hippocampus of brain below thalamus and amygdala

  • in hippocampus the stem cells primarily divide into neurons and glial cells

  • it also happens in SVZ subventricular zone this area produces neural progenitor cells that can migrate to the olfactory nerve and give rise to neurons

  • neurogenesis is mainly associated with the creation of new neurons that plays a crucial role in adapting things for human mind and brain
